Extemporaneous Public Speaking

In the National FFA (Future Farmers of America) organization, Extemporaneous Public Speaking is a Leadership Development Event (LDE) that challenges FFA members to deliver a speech and answer questions on a topic they have prepared in a short timeframe, with limited preparation. It's designed to enhance speaking skills and the ability to think on one's feet.

This event develops an FFA members' ability to express themselves on a given subject without prior extensive preparation.  Participants draw from a list of topics, choose one, and have a limited time (typically 30 minutes) to prepare a speech, which is then delivered followed by a question-and-answer period.  This event emphasizes the ability to articulate ideas, think critically, and respond to questions quickly.
